MATIANG'I ABANDONS PRESIDENT UHURU'S GOVERNMENT AS HE DEFIES DIRECT ORDERS

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiangi, has stopped the ongoing crackdown against NGOs perceived to be affiliated to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s NASA.

This follows a public outcry after the de-registration of Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Africog by Mohammed Fazul-led NGO Coordination Board for being anti-Government.

In a letter to the NGO Coordination Board, Matiangi ordered Fazul to stop the crackdown and allow for all the concerned parties to dialogue.

The Government accused the two human rights organizations of operating illegally in the country.

The NGO Board also wrote to the Central Bank of Kenya to freeze the accounts of the organisations in question for operating without licenses.

However, the besieged NGOs have accused the Government of habouring vendetta against them considering they petitioned Uhuru Kenyatta's win in 2013, and are currently looking into the election preparations into the 2017 poll that ended up being disputed.
